Mr. Andreas Hoschtitzky went to medical school at Leiden University in the Netherlands, following which he pursued his post-graduate cardiac surgical training in London, Bristol and Manchester with Congenital Cardiac Fellowships at Great Ormond Street Hospital, and Evelina Children’s Hospitals in London. Previously, he was the Clinical Lead at the Northwest regional ACHD Centre in Manchester, where he served as educational and clinical supervisor and worked as a Paediatric Cardiac Surgeon at Alder Hey Children’s Hospital from 2010 to 2017. He also setup the Regional Septal Myectomy Program for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. He is a Consultant Paediatric and Adult Cardiac Surgeon at the Royal Brompton Hospital, and specializes in the correction of complex congenital heart defects including: valve repair surgery of mitral, tricuspid (particularly Ebstein’s anomaly), aortic and pulmonary valves, aortic root surgery including valve sparing aortic root replacement and Ross procedure, aortic aneurysm surgery, and surgery for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. His academic interests are the long-term outcomes after surgery for congenital heart defects, innovative and improved strategies for re-operative surgery, complex repairs of congenital valve problems and aortic root problems and lastly translational research of effects of surgery in tetralogy of Fallot and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy on the ventricles as far as heart failure modification and arrhythmia modification is concerned. In addition to surgical research, he has a strong interest in quality improvement and education and has been part of the SPRINT faculty since 2018.
